Workshops and chapters
Can I book single workshops?
Yes, any workshop can be booked on its own at its own price. The one exception is “How Do Your Beliefs Shape Your Practice?”, which is booked together with “Discover Your Pattern” because the two form one double session.
What is a chapter, and can I book one on its own?
A chapter is a set of workshops on one theme. Any of the five chapters can be booked as a whole, at 10% off the total of its workshops.
What is the difference between a chapter, the full programme and the Development Track?
A chapter: a set of workshops on one theme.
The full programme: all five chapters and their nineteen workshops, at 15% off the total of the workshops.
The Development Track: the full programme, plus studio hours, weekly follow-up with the curator, and priority in the final exhibition.
Are materials included?
Workshops include the materials used for experimenting during the session. Materials for producing your own work are your own.
What language are the workshops in?
Workshops are run mainly in Arabic, and we can translate into English when needed.
Where are the workshops held? Is there parking?
Workshops are held at Bait Al-Thaqafa in Riyadh, and parking is available. We send directions with your booking confirmation.
What happens after I pay?
You receive a booking confirmation, then we add you to the WhatsApp group for your workshop or chapter.
How can I pay?
Payment is through the Haddad Studio store on Salla, by card, mada or Apple Pay, or in four instalments with Tamara.
Can I get a refund?
You can cancel for a refund, or move your booking to another date or another person, up to 72 hours before the date. This applies to workshops, space hire and Dialogue & Paint. There is no refund if you do not attend.
If the studio cancels or postpones a workshop, we refund you, keep the amount as credit for another workshop, or move your booking to another date or another person, depending on the workshop.
Do I get a certificate?
Workshops and the programme do not come with a certificate.
The studio
Does booking a workshop or a chapter include using the studio?
A single workshop or a single chapter does not include the studio. The workspace at Haddad Studio is open to Development Track members; anyone else can book a package of hours on the Spaces page.
How many studio hours do I get?
Development Track: 16 hours a month.
For everyone else, studio hours for artists: a free two-hour first visit on request by WhatsApp, then a 4-hour work session for 450 SAR (in one day or spread over a week, and credited towards a package bought within two weeks), then packages of 16, 32, 48 and 64 hours. These hours are for making artwork only; shoots and events use the space-hire rates.
When can I start using the studio?
From the first Saturday breakfast after you join. Breakfast runs every Saturday from 11am to 3pm, and that is where we plan the week's hours with participants.
Midad Residency and the Development Track
What does “residency” mean here?
Midad Residency is a fourteen-week artistic development programme at Haddad Studio in the JAX area, Diriyah. Each practitioner works on their own project with a workspace, dedicated time and individual follow-up, within a small group. “Residency” is an art-world term here; it does not mean accommodation.
Is accommodation or transport provided?
The programme does not include accommodation or transport.
What is the Inner Training?
The Inner Training is Chapter One of the Midad programme: seven workshops that start with the practitioner before tools and techniques. It is not an internship.
You work on what drives your practice from within: the beliefs that shape how you see yourself and your work, the values you stand on, the fears that hold you back, and the patterns that repeat in your work and decisions. You learn to tell a bodily sensation from a feeling or a thought, to draw from the unconscious, and to turn what you find into visual work.
What you gain: a clear map of your beliefs and patterns and a deeper sense of where your ideas come from, so your work feels more like you and your practice is easier to sustain.
Who it is for: practitioners who feel their work does not resemble them, who are looking for their own artistic language, or who want to understand what stalls their output. No previous experience is needed.
What is the Outer Training?
The Outer Training is Chapters Two to Five. It takes your practice out to materials, places, people and professional practice. Booking it in full covers its workshops only, at 10% off their total.
How does follow-up with the curator work?
Meeting times and frequency are agreed with the curator according to your project's stage, with at least one meeting a week. Each meeting reviews how the project is developing and sets your next step.
How do I take part in the final exhibition, and who is selected?
The final exhibition is open to everyone in the programme. Priority goes to Development Track members and to those who completed the whole Inner or Outer Training, because the exhibition shows each practitioner's development alongside their work.
