The development programme follows a progressive journey that begins with how practitioners observe the world and respond to it internally, then moves through visual language, meaning-making, material exploration, and professional practice. Combining field experiences, hands-on workshops, and live conversations, the programme concludes with a group exhibition presenting what each practitioner has developed throughout Midad Residency.
The journey moves between your materials and beliefs, the studio and meaning, until the work finds its language and form.
Professional Practice
Artistic work also needs clear language through which it can reach others. The Development Track includes group activities that help practitioners present their work and develop their professional presence.
- Writing a short biography and artist statement.
- Describing a project or artwork.
- Organising and developing a portfolio.
- Documenting work effectively.
- Speaking about the work in front of others.
- Understanding the appropriate audience for the practice.
- Building a consistent digital presence.
- Foundations of communication and marketing for an artistic practice.
- Preparing applications for exhibitions, residencies, and other opportunities.
The aim is not to turn the artist into a commercial product, but to help the work reach the people, spaces, and opportunities that are right for it.
